Back to School

in back to school  •  August 21, 2020

Wow that was fast. You’d think with the extended “break” it would seem longer but summer flew by as usual. We were distance learning from March-May last year so our actual summer break stayed about the same. I’ve been anticipating the start of the new school year and am excited to be back with the kids, but it’s always a bittersweet feeling saying goodbye to another summer.

Families had some major decisions to make this summer about whether they were sending their kids back to school or not, whether to do distance/virtual learning, a combination of both, or withdraw altogether and homeschool their kids. I know these decisions weighed heavy on alot of hearts and were not made lightly. There’s so much to consider when deciding what type of learning environment is right for your child. And the right environment for one student might be totally different than for another student. My heart goes out to all the parents that really struggled with a decision.

The thing is though, there is no *wrong* decision. Every option comes with risks but this one year isn’t going to destroy them. So what if distance learning doesn’t work out, you can learn from that and change it up. If in-person gets to be too much, I hope you have the option to withdraw and go with distance learning (my school is offering this), and if homeschool just doesn’t cut it, atleast you can say you tried. When you make your decision with your child and family in mind, you are doing the RIGHT thing. I went back and forth for a bit too, but deep down I knew what we would be doing….heading back to (in person) school.

This year is extra exciting because I get to bring TWO of my little babes with me to school. Everly is attending preschool two mornings out of the week and Hadley is a kindergartner (say whaaaaat??) Yes, a kindergartner. She was so excited for school and she rocked her first day. Everly did too. I love seeing them in the halls and catching them interacting with their classmates. Who knows what this school year holds during this crazy time, but I couldn’t be happier that we are in it together and we’ll rise up to whatever challenges we face.

How has your 2020-2021 school year started off?
Wishing you a wonderful year!
