wedding planning 2017

in lifestyle  •  June 21, 2017

I went to a wedding this weekend and it made me think of the wedding I’d want if I could do it all over again. Growing up, I can’t remember ever dreaming of or planning my wedding until I was actually ready to get engaged. Some girls grow up creating dream weddings for their barbies, doodling dresses, and picturing their perfect match. (Okay- that last one was so me). But although I knew I wanted to get married someday and have the whole she-bang, it just wasn’t something I grew up fantasizing about.

Cue my Mr. Right. I went into full-on wedding planner mode, even before I had a ring. Once I knew he was the “one”, I became interested (more like obsessed) in all things wedding: the ring, the dress, the color palette, the song list, all the things. It was so much fun coordinating details and planning the day.

I loved my wedding. All of it. My husband and I have discussed it many times and our only regret is that we cut the videographer from our budget. We have amazing pictures, but if I coud go back, I’d be sure we had a video as well. But the point of this post isn’t to change my original wedding. I still love my dress, the colors, and the entire day. This post is about what I would choose if I were getting married now- now that it’s almost 5 years later and my personality and style have both matured. Plus, sometimes it’s fun to get lost in wedding pins on Pinterest and get back in that wedding planning mindset. So here’s my wedding 2017 edition.

The color palette & theme

Earthy, floral, and oh so classic. I would fill my wedding with white and blush. The third color, an accent color, is up for grabs. I really like the green in this picture but I’m also intrigued by navy or even black.

The dress

My wedding dress today would be drama up top versus the traditional (or at least more common) flair at the bottom. I would want something to show off my arms, or a dramatic back of the dress like a deep scoop or lace. I’d lean towards simple, understated gowns with a timeless feel).

The bridesmaids dresses

I love this wedding dress too. I also love the varied-yet-similar bridesmaid dress lineup. These gowns are just enough alike to create a uniform look, but are unique and highlight different elements (color, sparkle, necklines!)

The cake

See a trend here? White + floral. Yaaaasss.

The bouquet

My bouquet theme: go big or go home. And if you feel like my bouquet resembles my cake, you’re right! I want to bring in elements of the bouquet and apply them to the cake. It’s a small detail that I think helps tie things together. Again- big, white, floral.

The ring

This ring! I love everything about it, especially the beauty and vintage feel of the tear drop shape.

The venue

I’m not totally sure I’d opt for an outdoor reception, but I love the idea of lights everywhere. This photo evokes a romantic atmosphere that is also light & airy. The perfect mix for a celebration of love.

One thing I wouldn’t change: my groom. While it’s fun to dream about wedding plans, I’ve truly already had my dream wedding, and I wouldn’t change it if I could (besides the whole videographer thing but that doesn’t count). Besides, its who you are with that really matters anyways, and my groom is never going out of style.
